In the past few weeks, an interesting debate over whether or not Turnitin.com is violating the copyright of students whose papers, submitted by their teachers, are archived on the site. A pair of high school students in Virginia and two in Arizona are suing Turnitin.com, claiming that that the anti-plagiarism tool is storing and using their work without their permission. One way to help students in your workshops and classes appreciate the value of evaluating web sites when doing research is to show them a real shocker (such as the white-supremacist created Martin Luther King web site, which I won’t link to it here and help boost its Google ranking further) or a fake or spoof web site. If you are looking for some new sites to use, check out this list from Philip Bradley on his web site (while you’re there, take a look at his blog, too, which I find indispensable).

Results from the 2006 Student Experience Survey are now posted on the CUNY Office of Institutional Research and Assessment page. About 80% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with our libraries (see table 9B).
