This video from Lee LeFever does a great job of explaining how a group working on a project can use a wiki to collaboratively author documents.

New ALA wiki!

Posted by Stephen Francoeur on December 7, 2006

Looks like the ALA is experimenting with a new wiki focused on professional development and enrichment. Check out the new Professionaltips wiki, register, and start adding content (it’s a wiki, after all!)

Conference wiki and blog for ASIST 2006

Posted by Stephen Francoeur on October 31, 2006

Over the past few years there has been a growing trend in the use of wikis and blogs to help conference attendees prepare for upcoming meetings and to document the content of presentations so that all may participate in at least a virtual manner. Some recent examples of conference wikis are:

  • ALA: 2005 and 2006 annual meetings and 2007 midwinter meeting
  • Internet Librarian: 2005 and 2006 annual meetings
  • Computers in Libraries: 2006 annual meeting

This year’s ASIST annual meeting, which I will attending as a presenter at a workshop on blogs and wikis, now has its own conference blog and wiki set up.

Following the example of many other conferences and meetings, perhaps we should have a LACUNY Institute wiki. Please add your comments to this post with any thoughts about this proposal.

Embedded Library Conference – What I learned

Posted by lacuny on October 13, 2006

Last Monday I went to a conference at Tufts University called “The Dawn of the Embedded Library:Integrating Library Services into People’s Trusted Networks.”

It was an eye-opener into new possibilities for things we can be doing in our libraries.

I’ve put my notes up on our library WIKI. (Consider looking at something on an internal office WIKI as similar to looking at a shared office desk — not everything is always as tidy as, say, a web site (or a public reference desk) might be. The design and arrangement of our WIKI is a work-in-progress).

To see the notes, go to:

If I had to pick one super new tool I learned about that I got really excited about, I’d say, take a look at LibX if you’ve never heard about it before. The screen shots tell the story and this is open source! http://libx.org/
